Color
The color of Citrine ranges from pale lemon
yellow, through rich yellow to a very dark yellowish brown. (which is called
Madeira Citrine).
Inclusions
Most Citrines are inclusion free.
Sources
Citrine is found in many countries but the
majority of commercial production is from Brazil, also Bolivia and Madagascar.
Treatment
Most Citrine on the market has been routinely heat
treated.
Care
Citrine is durable but should not be subjected to
high heat such as from a soldering torch which would cause the stone to crack
or lose color. Ultra sonic cleaning is usually safe but steam cleaning could
be risky. Hydrofluoric acid and alkalies can attack any quartz gem.
Uses
Citrine is durable enough for both mens' and
ladies' rings, pendants and earings.
Value
Citrine is relatively plentiful and moderately
priced. Madeira Citrine (marked with * on the Citrine Tables) is more scarce
and commands a higher price.
