Color The color of Pink Tourmaline ranges from a light pink through to a deep, rich dark red. The dark Red Tourmaline is called Rubellite.
Inclusions The Pink Tourmaline usually containes thin tubular inclusions which can be visible in the lighter material. We do our best to choose material which is predominently Eye Clean (FAQ # 7d). The darker red material does not have this problem.
Sources Both Pink and Red Toumaline are mined in Brazil, Sri Lanka and California.
Treatment Hot Pink color may be enhanced by Cobalt radiation. Most other material is not treated or enhanced.
Care Tourmaline jewelry should be stored separately to prevent scratching by harder gemstones. Tourmaline should not be subjected to high heat such as from a soldering torch. Ultra sonic and steam cleaning could be risky.
Uses Tourmaline is best used in a well protected ladies' ring or for pendants or earrings.
Alternatives Pink Tourmaline is a less expensive alternative to replace Pink Sapphire or Pink Diamond. Similarly Red Tourmaline can substitute for Ruby.
