PINK / RED TOURMALINE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Color
|
The color of Pink Tourmaline ranges from a light
pink through to a deep, rich dark red. The dark Red Tourmaline is called Rubellite.

Inclusions
|
The Pink Tourmaline usually containes thin tubular
inclusions which can be visible in the lighter material. We do our best to
choose material which is predominently Eye Clean (FAQ # 7d).
The darker red material does not have this problem.

Sources
|
Both Pink and Red Toumaline are mined in Brazil,
Sri Lanka and California.

|
Treatment
|
Hot Pink color may be enhanced by Cobalt
radiation. Most other material is not treated or enhanced.

Care
|
Tourmaline jewelry should be stored separately
to prevent scratching by harder gemstones. Tourmaline should not be subjected
to high heat such as from a soldering torch. Ultra sonic and steam cleaning
could be risky.

Uses
|
Tourmaline is best used in a well protected
ladies' ring or for pendants or earrings.

Alternatives
|
Pink Tourmaline is a less expensive alternative to
replace Pink Sapphire or Pink Diamond. Similarly Red Tourmaline can substitute
for Ruby.

|
The size and the richness of the color determines
the value of these Tourmalines.
